Firenze Santo Spirito
“More than 21000 pictures, 7000 selected images, of which 600 included in this book.
This work ... about the time that stood by without stopping, about vital and uninterrupted multicultural energy: so many faces, from sunrise to sunset, so many places, amazing landscapes and histories.
Photography is and has to be the humanity’s
historical memory. Photography is not a mere aesthetical fulfillment: this is
why I tried to capture in these pages the pulse of an unique neighborhood of
the world.”
Oliviero Toscani
The project “Firenze Santo Spirito” sprung from an idea of Associazione Amici di Santo Spirito Onlus and was produced by La Sterpaia, Workshop of the Art of Communication, directed by Oliviero Toscani. La Sterpaia collected a detailed, rich and unique photographic documentary on the Oltrarno district, located in Florence. The aim of the Associazione di Santo Spirito Onlus was to raise funds intended to support the wonderful Basilica of Santo Spirito. Oliviero Toscani and La Sterpaia joined this challenge; they selected a group of young and talented photographers that got started, in June 2009, on the project “Firenze Santo Spirito”. This photographic work tells about the neighborhood’s places, people, streets, churches, houses, shops, artisan bottegas, museums and its most hidden corners.

La Felicità
REPRINT
Domenico De Masi, doctor in sociology and Oliviero Toscani, imagineer, in a book on the quest for happiness. What do we know about happiness?
We know that, since always, it is man's natural aspiration and stubborn hope. Some look for it on hearth, some wait for afterlife.
We know that happiness belongs to the mind that feels it, just like beauty resides in the eye of the beholder.
